A quaint little ‘Portuguese’ restaurant located on the outskirts of Benoni on the road to Petit.
We had heard about Padrinhos on Facebook and decided to take a drive out for a quick Saturday morning breakfast but if you weren’t looking you’ll probably drive straight past.
Walking through the blue doors you are greeted by a beautifully decorated little room containing a few tables and a counter with the coffee machine set as the main attraction. We decided to sit outside and chose a table in the sun next to the pond.
The entire family decided to have hot chocolates while I HAD to have a coffee – after all, there must be a good reason for making the coffee machine the main feature… I wasn’t disappointed. The coffee is good (and so was the complimentary biscuit).
Looking through the menu it was evident that we would have to come back for a lunch sometime. Breakfast options range from a classic muesli and yoghurt to a decadent scrambled eggs and salmon on toast. There is even an option for those looking for a banting friendly meal.
The kids decided they wanted bacon, scrambled eggs and toast. J spotted the french toast stack and I thought the Padrinhos breakfast (chouriço, bacon, eggs, mushrooms, caramelised onions, tomato and a Portuguese roll) would hit the spot.
I couldn’t help but make a breakfast roll – which was delicious and should be suggested to everyone in future. The french toast looked amazing but J tucked in before I had a chance to take a photo.
We will be going back soon to try out a few of the other goodies on the menu like the Prato da dia (Plate of the day) or the Portuguese flame grilled chicken and we wont forget about desert – the pastéis de nata in particular.
They are open Monday – Friday 9am- 5pm and Saturday – Sunday 9am – 3pm.
