Shoot, Print and Share on the Go With Canon’s Zoemini C

Canon Zoemini C

Introducing Canon’s Zoemini C Instant Camera Printer. Say cheese and snap a selfie or capture a memory for instant capture and printing – the perfect pocket-sized solution for fun photography on the go.

This lightweight instant camera is super easy to use and once you’ve snapped that perfect picture or selfie using the front-mounted mirror you’ll get instant sticky printouts, ideal for cute keepsakes or personalising your things.

The Zoemini C comes in four funky colours which are Bumblebee Yellow, Bubble Gum Pink, Mint Green, and Seaside Blue. I got a Bubble Gum Pink unit to review which I wasn’t too happy about but it went down just fine with my six-year-old daughter. Out the box, the camera was almost fully charged and only took about 15 minutes to charge to 100%. Canon claims that the camera will fully charge from flat in around 90 minutes via the supplied USB cable. The battery charge level is indicated by a red/green light on the bottom of the camera.

The four easy to understand buttons located on the camera are the power, shutter, aspect ratio and reprint buttons. Both my daughter and I did find the shutter button a bit too ‘trigger happy’ and we both took a couple of accidental snaps. The Zoemini C has an indicator light located near the power button which it uses to communicate what it’s doing, i.e. a solid white light lets you know the camera is on while looping yellow, magenta, cyan and white indicates that the printer is printing.

Paper loading is super simple thanks to an easy to open door located on the back of the camera and the Smart Sheet™ that comes with the paper. Paper is available in-store and online in packs of 20 or 50. The 50 pack will cost you around R350 which works out to R7 per print.

There’s also a Micro SD card slot on the bottom of the camera so you can save your photos and share them with friends and family or on social media easily.

Photo quality from the 5MP camera is reasonable but it’ll never be able to compete with a digital compact camera. I found that the Zoemini C performed better in sunnier conditions than in low light and when using the flash, skin and lighter colours can get blown out.

Printing is relatively quick and from button push to print it takes about 50 seconds. Prints on the ZinkTM 2×3-inch printing paper are smudge-proof, tear-proof and water-resistant.

Key features include:

  • Lightweight (170 gm)
  • ZinkTM Printing Technology
  • 5MP Camera
  • 10 Sheet Capacity
  • Micro SD* Memory Card Support
*Photos taken with Canon Zoemini C can be saved to the Micro SD card. Images cannot be uploaded to Canon Zoemini C from the card.

Overall it’s a funky little camera and my only gripe is that the viewfinder wasn’t very accurate and what you see isn’t what you get.

I do think the novelty might wear off quickly even for a family that really enjoys taking photos and that its true value lies in its ability to entertain the kids. My daughter shot through 20 prints in the first half an hour – all of which she stuck proudly on a signed sheet of A4 paper.

What you’ll get in the box:

  • Canon Instant Camera Printer Canon Zoemini C
  • USB Cable
