Do you feel like your home is cramped? Maybe you feel as though the walls are closing in around you and you just have no idea what you can do about it. Either way, this guide will help you to make all of the right changes so you can have your home feeling like the nice open space it once did.
Contain your Clutter
If you feel as though your home is a little cramped then a lot of this could be due to the amount of clutter in your home. If your home is filled to the brim with stuff, then you may find that there is just nowhere for your eyes to rest, and this is the last thing you need. One thing you can do about this would be for you to remove clutter. Don’t be afraid to have a bit of empty space. If you can, try and add a few statement pieces too. Having lots of little items will work against you and it will also make it much harder for you to focus.
Float your Furniture
Another huge mistake would be for you to put all of your furniture against the walls in your home. If you do this, then you will soon find that this shrinks the room, and it makes the walls feel as though they are closing in. Sure, you may think that this has the opposite effect but that’s not true at all. Floating your furniture just two or three inches can make a monumental difference so try and focus on this as much as possible. If you still don’t feel like you have enough room, then it could be wise for you to expand your home. Remember you can find garage builders online and this is a great way for you to add value to your home.
Double Up
If possible, you have to try and find furniture that has more than one purpose. A couple of great examples here would be for you to get an ottoman that doubles up as storage. You can also invest in a coffee table that is able to expand, so it turns into a dining room table. If you have furniture that doubles up, then you will soon find that things are able to serve a double purpose, and this can work in your favor.
Go Low
Another thing you can do is try and go as low as possible. If you have a tall sofa, then you may find that it blocks a lot of light out of the window and this can make a huge difference. If you can, it is a good idea for you to invest in some low furniture too, such as tables or even footrests. This will make your rooms look taller than they actually are, and it will also bring your entire home together too. If you are unsure about a specific design, then think about how the furniture is used when advertised online and apply it to your own space.
