4 Signs You Shouldn’t Be Driving Your Car

A car is a little like an animal. If there’s something wrong, it’ll tell you through some significant warning signs. However, unlike an animal, if there is an issue then it could make the vehicle dangerous. That’s why it’s important to ensure that you are taking the right steps as soon as you spot one of these critical signs.

Check Engine Light

If there is a sure sign that you shouldn’t be driving your car, it is the engine light. This comes on to signify that there is a problem with your car. If the engine warning light comes on it could mean a number of things. There could be a problem with your spark plugs or your catalytic converter for instance. As soon as you notice that your engine warning light has come on, book your car in with an auto repair center as soon as possible. They will be able to put your car on their diagnostic machine and tell you the problem.

Weird Smells

Your car should never have a smell, unless you have a particularly strong air freshener. One of the worst smells that you might notice in your car is a burning smell. A burning smell will usually mean that there are problems with the engine. While this might not cause a collision, it could leave you stranded at the side of the road with an engine that won’t start. Worse, driving a car with an issue like this could lead to more expensive damage and longer repair work.

Peculiar Noises

It’s possible that you have heard a peculiar noise when you are driving your car. This could be anything from a whirring to a whistling. Each sound points to a different issue. For instance, you might find that your car is squeaking. If this sound is intermittent or gradually getting more common, then it’s possible, it’s a sign something is wrong with your vehicle brakes. They may need replacing. If you don’t do this early enough, then you’ll have trouble stopping the car. It could even reduce your stopping distance. When you spot this sign, you should take your car in for a professional service to check what’s going wrong.

Trouble With Handling

Finally, you should check whether there is trouble with handling the vehicle. Usually, this will be that the car is leaning one way, either to the left or the right. While you might be able to fight this lean, it will mean you need to pay more attention to this and less on the road around you. You might also notice that the car’s suspension seems off. This is another problem which will make it more likely that your car will collide with another vehicle.

We hope this helps you understand some of the key signs that you shouldn’t be driving your car. If you continue driving your vehicle once you notice these issues, then you’ll find it’s more dangerous and could particularly mean that you are putting your life, your passengers’ life and any else on the road around you.
